National Youth Week 2012 will see Liverpool host the annual youth Dance Competition that in 2011 offered urban dancers in Sydney’s South West the opportunity to battle it out on the dance floor for supremacy and establish their Street Legacy in the break dancing community.  Due to last years major success and by popular demand we have decided to introduce 2 more categories that will not only raise the roof, but also showcase how much the urban dance culture has evolved.  If you or your crew believe you have what it takes to claim supremacy in any of the 3 categories then register to enter by 14th April 2012 and establish you or your crews Street Legacy in the urban dance community.

Triple Threat 3 on 3 Basketball Competition

Liverpool will host a 3 on 3 Basketball Competition for National Youth Week 2012 offering young people who enjoy playing basketball the opportunity to engage in a competition that promotes playing hard and playing fair because friendly competition is healthy competition. Our aims are to create positive opportunities in a safe environment that engages young people in inter-active sports; promote socializing in a positive manner and provide positive school holiday activities for young people to have fun. Also featuring will be a 3 point Challenge & Dunk Competition, FREE BBQ plus PRIZES and Giveaways.

Triple Threat is a drug and alcohol free event.

There’s no time like the present to engage in a healthy liefstyle! Why not be apart of our urban culture participating in breakdancing, hip hop dance, Zumba and open fitness class. Live an optimum life by learning knowledge about nutrition, develop skills to make quick and healthy snack foods. You must be between the ages of 7-24 to participate in this program. Those students under 12 years of age must be supervised by a parent/guardian/support person over 18 years of age.

Workshops

Breakdance Jam – Tuesday 6pm-9pm (ages 12-24)

Description: The class will consist of classic Bboy/girl top rock, footwork, & freezes for beginners and for dancers who need to work on foundation, top rock, & floor rock.      

Urban Beginners Dance Female Class – Tuesday 6.30pm-7.30pm

Description: Basic Hip Hop Class

Zumba Female Class – Wednesday 4pm-5pm 

 

Description:This energizing dance-fitness workout combines easy to learn dance moves with a fantastic fusion of latin music for maximum calorie-burn; strengthens abs, core & lower body.   

Nutritionist & Chef Class – Wednesday 6pm-7pm 

Description: Learn skills about what foods constitute a healthy and balanced diet.  Master chef in making quick and healthy snack foods                                                                                                         

Open Fitness Class – Thursday 4.30pm – 5.30pm

Cardio workout utilizing the interval training method by alternating segments of muscle conditioning with challenging bursts of cardio exercises                                                      

Rumble! Spoken Word Poetry in the School Holidays

Poetry, story, lyrics, rap… bring it to the mic this coming school holidays. Outspoken wordsmiths spitting it live in team slams. Just you and your mates with a mic in the spotlight. The Rumble Poetry Slam will inspire you to write and perform your own poetry, stories, lyrics and monologues. You must be between the ages of 12-18 to participate in this program. 

Workshops

Train up to be part of the show. Work on skills and form a ‘Slam Team’. Professional spoken word artists will mentor young people, aged 12-18, through the processes of writing and performing. They will work on individual presentations and will also work in teams of 4, creating group performances. Workshops will be held at The Street University on April 17 and 18 between 12-4pm, and finish with the Rumble Heat on April 19 at 3pm.

The Rumble Heats

Teams get just three minutes to make the audience scream. Hop on stage or kick back and cheer with your mates. Judges chosen from the audience on the night. One team wins a trip to Melbourne for The Rumble: Interstate Final.

Performers Needed for Bring It On! Festival 2012

This year, The Street University is running the Street Jamz (Hip-Hop Stage) at the Bring It On! Festival. We are now taking applications from performers who are keen on showcasing their talents on the day. Click here to apply. Applications close Saturday 31st of March at 12PM. You must submit your application before then.

Bring It On! Festival is an open-air music, sporting and arts festival and attracts over 10,000 people annually. The festival started in 2001 and is held at Fairfield Showground to celebrate National Youth Week.

The Bring it On! Festival 2012 will be held on Sunday 15 April at Fairfield Showground from 11am – 8pm. The Festival will feature at least 4 stages of live entertainment with the INFINITY ALL AGES Dance Party to close the event. Also featuring rides, a skate comp, interactive youth spaces, food and information stalls, yard games and more. A free Shuttle bus Service is available from Fairfield, Canley Vale and Cabramatta train stations.

TRIPL3 THR3AT 3v3 Basketball Competition. Register your team now!

Think you got what it takes to hold down the court? Get your friends together, make a team and represent a local organisation. Dominate the game.

TRIPL3 THR3AT is a 3 on 3 Inter-agency Street Ball Competition developed to unify local organizations as well as young people who enjoy fitness and the love of basketball. Our aims are to create positive opportunities in a safe environment that engages young people in inter-active sports, promotes socializing in a positive manner and builds a healthy rapport amongst young people with local service providers therefore strengthening local links in the Community.

The TRIPL3 THR3AT Competition will run every Thursdays 4.30pm-6.30pm for 5 weeks at The Street University indoor 3 on 3 Street Ball Courts. All teams entering the competition will play 2 rounds per week and 10 rounds in total throughout the competition. All teams competing will make the finals and will playoff for placing. Competition nights will always begin with skills and drills for warm up coached by Professional players from the NBL Basketball Organization, Sydney Kings.  The presentation ceremony will occur immediately after all teams have completed competing in the finals and their placing determined.

We are taking applications from young people who want to make a difference in their community. We are looking for youth to contribute to the development of The Street University.

Youth Council Member’s key responsibilities will include attending youth council meetings, present opportunities and youth related matters to the youth council, work on projects as a team between meetings, assist The Street University to canvas youth views and engage with the wider community.

In return, the Street University will provide appropriate training to the youth council, an opportunity for young people to be ambassadors for The Street University, and an opportunity for young people to work on meaningful projects for the community.

Members must be between the age of 12-24 years. If you are 12-17 years old, you will need parent/guardian consent. You must fill out the parent/guardian consent section otherwise your application will not be valid.
